9 firms on the FDANZ register
These are the Hawke's Bay funeral homes listed as members by the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand, read on 2026-10-25. They are in the association’s order, not ranked, and nothing here is a recommendation — we have no relationship with any of them and have assessed none of them. Membership means a firm belongs to the association and is bound by its code; it is not a guarantee about price or about any individual funeral.

Funeral directors in Napier and Hastings
Napier and Hastings are about twenty minutes apart, and in practice families in either city use firms from both. Several of the names above run more than one branch across the two cities and Taradale, so the branch nearest you is usually less important than who you feel comfortable with on the first phone call. Whichever firm you ring, it can collect from a hospital, rest home or private home anywhere in the Bay, and it will tell you what that costs before you agree to anything.
Outside the twin cities
Central Hawke's Bay (Waipukurau and Waipawa) and Wairoa each have a local funeral home on the register. For a death in a rural district it is normal to use the local firm, but nothing stops you using a Napier or Hastings director instead; expect a travel charge for the collection and for any service held away from their premises.
Comparing prices in Hawke's Bay
Ask every firm for an itemised written price list, and compare the director's own professional fee separately from the third-party costs they pass on, such as the cemetery or crematorium fee, death notices and the celebrant. If you want the simplest option, a cremation with no service, our direct cremation guide shows one national provider's published Hawke's Bay price alongside other regions. A full funeral costs more; the cost guide breaks down where the money goes.
Tangihanga and Māori whānau
Hawke's Bay is part of the Ngāti Kahungunu rohe, and many local funerals involve time on a marae. Funeral directors here are used to working alongside whānau and marae for tangihanga, whether that means embalming and transport only or a fuller role. Say what you need at the first call; a good director will follow the whānau's lead.
